Brazilian Blow Dry

Please note that our Brazilian Blow Dry contains two percent formaldehyde, so that your curls become even smoother, softer and looser — with less frizz.

We also offer our Keratin Smoothing treatment — sometimes referred to as Keratin 'Brazilian' Smoothing — can de-frizz and smooth straight or curly hair — without using harsh chemicals. Tap the button below for details of our Keratin 'Brazilian' Smoothing.

Remember that Brazilian Blow Dry is especially manufactured for dark blonde to black hair

Brazilian Blow Dry is not for use on light blonde hair or hair with bleached blonde, tinted blonde, highlighted hair or hair with high lift blonde tint, where discolouration may occur because the natural colour of Keratin may cause a yellow-brown cast on blonde hair.

So, what can Brazilian Blow Dry do for you?

  • How much does Brazilian Blow Dry cost?

    Choose from these options:

    'Brazilian' keratin blow-dry
    short to shoulder-length hair £75
just over shoulder length hair £85
    longer hair £100
    hair cut extra £10
there is a £20 surcharge for hair past the bra-line, thick hair and Afro-Caribbean hair
  • Brazilian Blow Dry is a gentle de-frizzing and smoothing treatment

Brazilian Blow Dry can de-frizz and smooth straight hair or curly hair — without using harsh chemicals.

The results depend on the frizziness of your hair: curls can become smoother and softer with much less frizz, and the worse the condition of your hair, the more remarkably it can be invigorated. The effects last from one month up to three months and slowly wash out over time.

Treated hair slowly returns to its natural condition. It is safe to repeat the treatment after about six weeks to get smooth, silky hair again should you wish.

But YOU MUST USE A SALT-FREE SHAMPOO AND HAIR CONDITIONER: You MUST use a shampoo which is FREE FROM sodium chloride (commonly known as salt — INCLUDING 'dead sea salt' which you often find in some 'organic' shampoos).

  • What does a Brazilian Blow Dry actually do?

Brazilian blow dry for frizz-free, shiny hair

Basically, a Brazilian Blow Dry produces shinier hair. It can even be used on tinted hair. So, if you want a gentler way to calm your curls or fight off frizz, then a Brazilian blow dry could be for you!

What does a Brazilian Blow Dry actually do?

Brazilian blow dry is a method of temporarily sealing liquid keratin into the hair with hair irons or heated hair straighteners. The benefits of Brazilian blow dry (or keratin treatment) are:

    • Brazilian blow dry can smooth
    • Brazilian blow dry can soften
    • Brazilian blow dry is instantly manageable
    • Brazilian blow dry can shine
    • Brazilian blow dry can eliminate frizz
    • Brazilian blow dry can take just 90 minutes!

After the treatment, your hair very slowly returns to its natural condition over many weeks. The good news is: it is safe to repeat the treatment after about six weeks to maintain smooth, silky hair, should you wish.

  • How long does Brazilian Blow Dry take?

How long does a Brazilian Blow Dry take?

A Brazilian Blow Dry can be done as quickly as in one and a half hours, or it might take as long as three hours. It all depends on the length and texture of your hair.

We at denny hairdressing think that an average time would be about 90 minutes — why not consult us for a more precise estimate?

What about bleached and blonde highlighted hair?

Our product is especially manufactured for dark blonde to black hair and is not for use on light blonde hair, where discolouration may occur because Keratin's natural colour may cause a yellow-brown cast on blonde hair.

Will a Brazilian Blow Dry damage my hair?

Our Brazilian Blow Dry does not damage your hair — it can actually enhance your hair.

This is because keratin (which is a natural protein already in the hair shaft) is vital in helping to smooth out curls and frizz.

Keratin fills gaps between the cuticle and the inner hair shaft and is sealed with a heated straightening iron. This treatment can smooth out curls. The keratin also gently bonds with your hair and helps to restore any damage that may have happened due to harm or environmental stresses.

The results can be dramatic — and can last up to four months!

  • What is Brazilian Blow Dry procedure at the denny hairdressing salon?

We start with our pre-Brazilian Blow Dry hair clarification or cleansing

At denny hairdressing, we think it is essential that we carry out the following processes fully in order to open your hair cuticle:

For normal or chemically treated hair — we give your hair two thorough shampoos using salon professional clarifying shampoo and then comb your hair through

We blast dry and section your hair

Next we quickly blast dry your hair with just a hairdryer and our hands

Using section clips, we carefully divide your hair into four sections (from ear to ear and from front to nape). we then gently apply our the Keratin Smoothing Treatment from a bowl to your hair with a firm brush.

We apply our Brazilian Blow Dry Keratin Smoothing Treatment

Starting from your nape we take 5mm (quarter inch or less), comb it straight and apply the treatment with our applicator brush. we carefully dip the brush into the lotion, remove any excess so that we can apply our keratin smoothing solution to each parting, starting just below root area and keeping the product off the scalp

We then work it into your hair through to the mid-lengths and ends. we finger press it into your hair and finally gently comb your hair through from root to tip to ensure an even saturation over the section. of course we repeat the process with the other sections.

We dry your hair carefully, thoroughly and just "snap & slide"!

Using a paddle brush, we completely blow dry your hair starting at your last applied section ensuring the hair is dried thoroughly. we then divide your hair into four sections with clips.

Now it's time to seal and infuse the treatment, using very hot straightening irons, set at 220 or 230 degrees centigrade.

If your hair has been highly processed, badly damaged or delicate, we would start the infusion process with irons set on a lower temperature of around 150 to 175 degrees centigrade. We will only increase the temperature if and when the condition and gloss improves until the hair is fully infused

We start from the nape area with a fine tooth comb, part the hair into 5 mm (quarter inch or less) sections, comb clean like a board and flat iron the root section first. this is known as the "snap & slide" and we may need to repeat it as many times as necessary and then s–l–o–w–l–y pass the iron down the completed length of the section.

We then "snap & slide" down the mid-lengths and ends of the section until your hair is fully infused with the keratin solution. we usually make more than 12 snap & slides per section, and it can sometimes take even more strokes until we are happy that all the Brazilian Blow Dry Keratin Smoothing Treatment is infused into your hair. at each stroke it is possible to see your hair condition appear to improve with increased shine, strength and smoothness.

  • What do I have to do to care for my Brazilian Blow Dry?

We suggest you follow our three Brazilian Blow Dry 72-hour rules

Not everyone will tell you this, but you really have to take special care of your new hair — especially for the first 72 hours after it has been treated.

Your hair is now like a new born baby, it can't look after itself at all and needs particular care and attention.

You are the only person who can look after it properly — but don't worry, it's only for for 72 hours after treatment.

We recommend that you occasionally run heated hair straighteners through your hair to help fix your keratin into your hair.

1 — Avoid swimming or getting your hair wet!

if you avoid getting your hair wet during the 72 hours after your treatment has been done you will find that its effects last much longer because you are letting your hair settle down naturally and are therefore giving the treatment the time it needs to take complete effect.

please note that getting your hair wet in swimming pools or the ocean is much worse than plain water, and should be avoided completely!

If you do actually get your hair wet during the first 72 hours after treatment it will become quite soft and will then be prone to being accidentally mis-shaped, so do your best to avoid getting it wet. should you get your hair wet the best thing to do is to blow dry your hair immediately and, if you can, use ceramic straighteners to restore its shape if necessary.

2 — Avoid shampoo, hair spray, gel, mousse and hair products for 72 hours after treatment

If you want your hair to look good for as long as possible — avoid all these chemicals for just 72 hours after treatment. of course you can shampoo your hair after the treatment, use hair spray, gel, mousse or any other hair products

But if you avoid all these chemical treatments for your hair for a few days after your Brazilian Blow Dry, you will find that its effects can last so much longer because you are letting your hair settle down naturally and are therefore giving the treatment the time it needs to take complete effect.

After these 72 hours, you must shampoo your hair using a sodium chloride free product. Sodium chloride (better known as common salt) is the only ingredient you must avoid in order to prolong the benefits of the keratin treatment because salt dries out and weakens the keratin links in your hair. Sulphates are OK in the shampoo — but make sure you avoid shampoos with ‘Dead Sea Salt' (which is still sodium chloride). Anything else with sodium in it is fine, so long as it is not sodium chloride (SALT).

3 — Avoid wearing clips your hair, tying your hair in a ponytail, plaiting or braiding your hair, twisting it, or using ties in your hair for the first 72 hours

You could wear a ponytail, clip, braid, plait, twist or tie your hair in the first 72 hours — but you will run the risk of introducing kinks or ridges into your hair. It's best to keep it simple and natural for such a short time.

  • What is in the Brazilian Blow Dry Treatment?

What is actually in our Brazilian Blow Dry Treatment?

In a nutshell, the ingredients which we use at denny hairdressing in our Brazilian Blow Dry Keratin Treatment are: Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol, Hydrolyzed keratin, Steartri-monium Chloride, Parfum, Cyclomethicone, Formaldehyde, Hydroxy-ethylcellulose, Vitamin B5, Glyoxal, C.I. 16035, C.I. Natural brown.

    We thought you'd never ask.

  • How does our Brazilian Blow Dry work?

Most chemical products break down your hair and restructure it. However, the Brazilian Blow Dry keratin smoothing treatment is a safe infusion procedure with practically no threat of hair damage or breakage and the results are gentle and can last months. it can be used successfully on most kinds of hair, be it ethnic hair, virgin hair, dark blonde to black coloured hair, unprocessed hair, processed hair, dry hair, greasy hair or frizzy hair.

Caring for your Brazilian Blow Dry

72 hours after your Brazilian Blow Dry, you may shampoo and condition your hair — but you must use a salt-free shampoo and a salt-free hair conditioner.

You must make sure that your shampoo and a conditioner are BOTH FREE FROM sodium chloride, commonly known as salt, — including 'dead sea salt' which is often found in some 'organic' shampoos.

NOTE: 'SLS FREE' does NOT mean that a shampoo or conditioner is salt-free, because SLS is not salt, it is actually a cleansing agent, so always carefully check the contents of your shampoo and conditioner.
